Technology fills the insurance awareness gap
Intesa Sanpaolo has created a virtual world to help people see how insurance works.
Intesa Sanpaolo Assicura – the insurance arm of Italian bank Intesa Sanpaolo – has opened a ground-breaking financial advice centre in Turin to highlight the importance of protecting against the uncertainties of modern family life.
Torino Area X is an interactive space with elements to inform, entertain and educate about the importance of being protected against life’s risks. The different experiences in the virtual world are linked together as a game. The guiding principle is that the most interesting adventures will be had by those who have adequate cover with regard to what they are doing.
The aim is to make people, especially younger generations, aware that the risks and unpredictability of daily existence can be protected against through an insurance policy. A survey has shown that the most common fears of families are about health problems, losing a job, having an accident or property being damaged by weather events.
But only 11 per cent of families have an insurance policy guarding against such risks. Around 37 per cent of those without one believe that insurance could help protect them for the future. Intesa Sanpaolo Assicura sees Torino Area X as a way to fill the awareness gap.
Turin was chosen because it is considered Italy’s ‘insurance capital’ and is home to the insurance division. Intesa Sanpaolo sees insurance as an integral part of the relationship with its clients. It can provide individual advice about risks, organise the insurance and offers follow-up services including managing claims.
